Seton Hall University employees and students are automatically provided an e-mail and Local Area Network account when they become official members of the University.
Accounts and access for students and employees are provided automatically from the University's Banner administrative system.
- Accounts are generated once an active record has been created in the Student Information System or the Human Resources System in Banner. Account generation takes approximately two business days following the creation of the record in Banner.
- Students receive their account information and password at new student or transfer orientation.
- Faculty receive their account information at New Faculty Orientation.
- Administrators and Staff receive their account information from their supervisor when they begin working for the University.
- Your account will remain active as long as you are a student or employee of the University.

- Accounts for temporary employees can be requested by logging in to PirateNet and click on the "My Work" tab for additional details.
E-mail Accounts
All Seton Hall University students and employees are issued an e-mail account. This is the e-mail account that the University will use to communicate all official university business and news.
Seton Hall University uses Microsoft Exchange as its campus e-mail system. In addition to e-mail, MS Exchange provides a variety of other features, including: attachments, personal and campus address books, calendaring, task management, folders, and customizable layouts, depending on which method you use to access the system.
Student e-mail is accessed through the University's portal at
piratenet.shu.edu. Most faculty, administrators and staff use the MS Exchange client to access their e-mail.
Network Accounts
All University students and employees automatically receive network accounts. The campus network provides access to the Internet, networked printing and network file storage. One option for network file storage is the Blackboard Content System, which is an effective way of backing up files that you do not want to lose.
