Blackboard Content System

The Blackboard Content System is a file storage system within Blackboard.  It allows every student, administrator, staff and faculty member to have their own virtual hard drive, an electronic repository in which to collect, share and manage content.

There are several benefits to using the Blackboard Content System:

  • Access to files from anywhere at any time
  • Time saving features such as drag and drop that allow you to create backups of your files already stored on your desktop
  • Store your files in one place
  • Share your files
  • Reuse your files each semester
  • Edit files stored in the Content System directly from your desktop without being logged in to Blackboard

Prerequisites:

To use the Blackboard Content System, you must be a member of the SHU community with a valid Blackboard account username and password.

Process:

The Blackboard Content System can be accessed two ways:

  1. MyWeb@SHU - You can access the content system via MyWeb@SHU.  Log in using your Bb account id and password.  locate the text box labeled Content Collection: My Content.  Within that text block you will see My Content, click on it.  You will then be able to view and access the data saved in the content system.
  2. Mapping to a Windows Drive Letter - For those who wish to map the web folder to a Microsoft Windows drive letter, the University has a software application called WebDrive. To download WebDrive, log into MyWeb@shu and navigate to the Tech@SHU tab. Locate the "Get Web Drive" module, download the software and follow the instructions. Please note that WebDrive is not required to access your Blackboard Content System web folder. The benefit of using WebDrive is that by assigning the web folder as a drive letter in MS Windows, you are able to access the web folder directly through other Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Word.

Students receive 1gigabyte of storage space. Faculty, administrators and staff receive 2 gigabytes of space but can make requests to have the storage space increased up to 5 gigabytes. Storage space is allocated upon account creation and is available upon first login.
