Blackboard is a web-based learning management system used throughout
SHU to deliver online or web-enhanced courses. Blackboard provides a
secure log in system, easy-to-navigate template, and tools to create
and administer face to face and online courses. Some of these tools
include discussion forums, student group areas, text-based and real
time chat, a gradebook for securely distributing grades to enrolled
students, and assessment tools for giving quizzes and exams.
Prerequisites:
- Blackboard course shells are automatically created for courses
listed with the University Registrar. Upcoming, current and three
previous semester courses are available on the Blackboard system.
- All students currently enrolled or enrolled for the upcoming
semester at Seton Hall University have access to a Blackboard
account.
- All faculty, administrators and staff currently employed by Seton
Hall University have access to a Blackboard account.
Process:
Processing Time:
- Blackboard accounts are generated for students within 2 business
days of depositing and/or registering as a student at Seton Hall
University. Exceptions may occur during the start of the semester when
there is an unusually high volume of account requests.
- Faculty, Administrator and Staff accounts are generated within 2
business days of the completion of the hiring paperwork.
Procedures:
- Every member of the Seton Hall University community has an ID and
password.
- Your username is also known as your "shortname". The shortname is
your unique 8 characters which make up your e-mail address (e.g.
smithjos@shu.edu).
- The password to access myWeb@SHU (Blackboard) is the same password
as your Web Mail password.
- Blackboard course shells are automatically created for every course
listed with the University Registrar.
- You access your course by logging into your account at
myWeb@SHU.
- Courses components include the following:
-
- Announcements
- Course Information
- Course Documents
- Assignments
- Communication
- Discussion Board
- External Links
- Course Tools
- Each class is automatically populated. The enrollment is automated
such that no faculty needs to request enrollment or request that a
Blackboard course be created.
- Each person in Blackboard has a role (student, faculty, staff,
system administrator). Based on that role there is certain information
that will be "pushed" to you and appear on your screen. This is a way
to 'streamline' the way that we communicate and share information in
the campus community.
