CDI 6

Date Started: Sep 1, 2002
Status:Completed

Project Description

The sixth iteration of CDI took place in 2002.  Three grants were awarded.  A description of each project is detailed below.
English Large Course Redesign: The aim of this CDI is to help professors and instructors in the English department integrate Blackboard into there teaching. The CDI will provide resources to make the extra investment of time and effort possible. Blackboard is most extensively used in the first-year writing courses by the writing faculty. While this is a group that can always benefit from more encouragement and instruction in using the software (particularly adjuncts), the Provost has discussed with members of the English department the goal of greater implementation of Blackboard in the core and survey courses with large enrollments (specifically ENGL 2101/2102 Great Books I & II and ENGL 2103/2104 American Lit I & II), along with the eventual goal of 100% implementation in all or most courses.

Psychology Large Course Redesign: The goal of this CDI is to promote and support technology enabled curriculum redesign of large enrollment core or foundation courses as a means of improving outcomes and improving efficiency of course delivery. The Psychology Large Course Redesign will prepare faculty to use technology efficiently and effectively in the redesign of large enrollment courses in anticipation of renewed dialog regarding the undergraduate core curriculum and explore and create new models for course design and delivery.

Arts & Science Online Core Courses: In this project, faculty agree to design and create course content for online learning. Arts & Science faculty will develop digital content to be delivered using Blackboard. Course development includes conversion of classroom content to a Blackboard course shell, development of multimedia resources and interactive modules (as needed), use of the gradebook in Bb (as appropriate), and use of discussion board tool in Bb.
