Faculty Laptop Refresh

Policy Description

In order to keep technology current at Seton Hall, the Mobile Computing Program was developed using a refresh model where the laptops and tablets issued through the program are replaced with a new model laptops and tablets after a specific period of time.  

Full-time Faculty:

Seton Hall has instituted an optional 2 year refresh process with a required refresh after 3 years. This ensures that the laptop or tablet that the faculty member is using is compatible with the laptops and tablets being used by the students. In addition, it ensures that the faculty have access to the most current technology available.

  1. All full-time faculty are eligible for laptop refresh every two years.
  2. Faculty members can opt to defer refresh for one additional year, resulting in a three year refresh. Refresh is required after the third year of use.
  3. All contact regarding refresh will be communicated through the University e-mail system.
    1. The initial e-mail is be a survey requesting the faculty member to select a two or three year refresh. Those requesting a two year refresh will be asked to select whether they will be refreshing to a laptop or a tablet computer.
    2. A follow-up e-mail will be sent out with a link to an appointment database where the faculty member can select a refresh appointment date and time.
  4. Faculty laptop refresh will take place during the summer months of June and July.
  5. During the appointment, technicians will be available to assist with moving your data files from the old laptop / tablet to the new one.
  6. Faculty who are not able to attend the Faculty Laptop Refresh sessions will be asked to contact the Asset Management Office to schedule a make-up session.

 

Adjunct Faculty:

Adjunct faculty are issued a two year old model laptop. Adjunct faculty are required to refresh their laptop or tablet every year.

  1. All adjunct faculty must refresh laptop every year.
  2.  All contact regarding refresh will be communicated through the University e-mail system.
    1. An e-mail will be sent out with directions regarding how to schedule a refresh appointment.
  3. Adjunct faculty are responsible for transferring their own data from the old laptop / tablet to the new one. If assistance is needed, the adjunct faculty member is advised to visit the Laptop Consultation Area in Corrigan Hall prior to his or her refresh appointment.
  4. Adjunct Faculty laptop refresh will take place during the summer months of June and July.
