Helpful Mailing Tips for Department Mail

In an effort to ensure quality mail service, please follow these guidelines

  1. Inter-office correspondence must be placed in inter-office envelopes to preclude the possibility of placing postage when it is not necessary.
  2. Overlap flaps on envelopes if you wish mail to be sealed and stamped.
  3. Please notify the mail center manager at least one week in advance of a large mailing of 1000 pieces. Please call (973) 275-5899.
  4. When ordering merchandise please make sure the company you are ordering from puts your NAME and DEPARTMENT on the order to help insure that you receive the merchandise.

    Example:
    John Q. Pirate
    Chemistry/McNulty Hall
    Seton Hall University
    400 South Orange Avenue
    South Orange, NJ 07079

Failure to do so may result in a timely delay of delivery.
  5. When addressing inter-office correspondence, please use the person’s name, department and building.

    Example:
    John Q. Pirate
    Chemistry/McNulty Hall

Failure to do so may result in a timely delay of delivery.
  6. Large 8 1/2 by 11 inch envelopes must be sealed by the department.
  7. If your department is going to be closed, please notify the mail clerk who delivers your mail or call the mail center manager.
  8. If your department has a large inter-office mailing, please separate by departments and not by building or alphabetical.
  9. Forward on a monthly basis to the mail center a list of departmental employee changes. Please include graduate assistants and adjunct professors.
