Packing for College

Deciding what to bring when you move on to campus can be a tough and often confusing decision.  To make things easier we have compiled a list of recommended items/suggestions as well as those items that you should not bring to campus.

You may wish to bring: *
alarm clock	bed sheets / mattress pad (we recommend XL twin size 84” x 36”)
back pack	memo board for outside door
bath tote or bucket	microwave (no more than 800 watts)
camera / film	overnight bag / suitcase
cleaning supplies	phone for landline
comforter / blanket	pillows / pillowcases
printer	plants
desk / floor lamp (no halogen or multiple plastic shade lamps)	radio / stereo
desk set	recycle bins
dictionary / thesaurus	refrigerator (4 cubic feet maximum)
dry erase board for outside door	school supplies
dust buster / vacuum	stapler / staples
flashlight / batteries	throw rug for the bathroom
full-length mirror	towels / toiletries
hangers	2 wastebaskets (one for normal trash, one for recycling)
ironing board / iron	TV (cable ready) / VCR / DVD / cable wire
laundry bag / basket	UL approved power strip with circuit breaker
Items you may wish to bring to Ora Manor and Turrell Manor Apartments ONLY
pots / pans	electric cooking appliances
toaster oven
You may NOT bring: *
X amplified instruments	X leather desk chairs
X candles, incense or air freshener plug-ins	X pets
X decorative lights	X space heaters
X extension cords	X toaster oven
X halogen lamps or multiple plastic shade or multi-bulb lamps	X multi-plug adapters
X hot plates or any open coil or sandwich/ panini grill appliance	X cinder blocks or bed risers
X lofts	X upholstered furniture

Notes:

• All residence halls are air conditioned.
• Some residence halls do not include overhead lighting. We highly recommend bringing your own lamp(s). Halogen lamps and multiple plastic shade or multi-bulb lamps are prohibited.  
  

* If you plan to bring an electrical item or piece of furniture not on this list please contact our office to be sure it will be permitted.
