Packing for College

 

Move-in DayDeciding what to bring when you move on to campus can be a tough and often confusing decision.  To make things easier we have compiled a list of recommended items/suggestions as well as those items that you should not bring to campus.

tick check alarm clock tick check bed sheets / mattress pad (we recommend XL twin size 84” x 36”)    
tick check back pack tick check memo board for outside door
tick check bath tote or bucket tick check microwave (no more than 800 watts)
tick check camera / film tick check overnight bag / suitcase
tick check cleaning supplies tick check phone for landline
tick check comforter / blanket tick check pillows / pillowcases
tick check printer tick check plants
tick check desk / floor lamp (no halogen or multiple plastic shade lamps) tick check radio / stereo
tick check desk set tick check  recycle bins
tick check dictionary / thesaurus tick check refrigerator (4 cubic feet maximum)
tick check dry erase board for outside door
tick check school supplies
tick check dust buster / vacuum tick check stapler / staples
tick check flashlight / batteries tick check throw rug for the bathroom
tick check full-length mirror tick check towels / toiletries
tick check hangers tick check 2 wastebaskets (one for normal trash, one for recycling)
tick check ironing board / iron  tick check TV (cable ready) / VCR / DVD / cable wire
tick check laundry bag / basket tick check UL approved power strip with circuit breaker

X amplified instruments X leather desk chairs
X candles, incense or air freshener plug-ins
X pets 
X decorative lights X space heaters
X extension cords X toaster oven
halogen lamps or multiple plastic shade or multi-bulb lamps X multi-plug adapters
X hot plates or any open coil or sandwich/ panini grill appliance X cinder blocks or bed risers 
X lofts  X upholstered furniture

Notes:

  • All residence halls are air conditioned.
  • Some residence halls do not include overhead lighting. We highly recommend bringing your own lamp(s). Halogen lamps and multiple plastic shade or multi-bulb lamps are prohibited.  

* If you plan to bring an electrical item or piece of furniture not on this list please contact our office to be sure it will be permitted.
