Housing Basics for New Students

Let's get started toward making a home at the Hall!

Residency on campus is voluntary and there is no requirement for freshmen or other students to live on campus.

Room Availability

On campus housing is in great demand. We hold a beds for the first 850 new students who apply for housing. If you apply after the 850 mark, we will still try to provide housing, prioritizing applications by the distance to your home address and when you paid your housing deposit and submitted your housing application. The takeaway:

  • Space is limited.
  • Deposit and apply as early as possible.
  • Completing an application does not guarantee a room assignment.

How to Apply for Housing

Just to be clear, you can only apply for housing after you have been admitted to Seton Hall.  Once you receive your acceptance packet, follow these steps to request a room.

  1. Make your new student tuition and housing deposits.
  2. Complete the Housing Application (available 1/26/09). Be sure to keep your acceptance packet close. You'll need your new SHU ID to start your housing application.
  3. When you apply, you'll need to agree to the Housing Terms and Conditions of License Agreement. Be sure to print out a copy now for your records.

Room Assignments, Roommates and Moving Instructions

All new students are assigned to Boland or Aquinas Hall. We pick the residence hall based on the core classes you select at orientation. We group you with other new students in your class sections, giving you a living learning community in your hall. The living learning community is an essential part of your freshman experience, so we do not honor roommate requests. Don't worry, you'll be able to request a roommate after your first year.

We will send your residence hall selection, roommate information and Move in Day instructions to your home address by end of July. Once you receive your Pirate Adventure, or orientation, packet, you can use your account information to view your housing information online.  Simply sign in to PirateNet and look for the "MyHousing" module.

Meal Plans

If you do live on campus, you must participate in a University dining plan. We offer a variety of options to suit your lifestyle, including varying numbers of meals, guest passes and Pirate Bucks (a debit-like card you can use across campus).
