Insurance

New Jersey state law requires that full-time matriculated students be covered by health insurance.  In order to ensure that all our students are in compliance with this requirement, Seton Hall University provides group health insurance plans for undergraduate, graduate and law students.  You will automatically be enrolled in the appropriate plan.  If you are covered under another health insurance plan and would like to request an exemption from enrollment in Seton Hall’s Student Insurance Plan, you must complete and electronically submit a waiver form on line.

The cost for the Student Insurance Plan will be included in your bill for tuition and fees.  Half the cost will be in the Fall 2009 semester’s bill and half in the Spring 2009 semester’s bill. These rates will be available shortly. The Office of Financial Aid within Student Financial Services (800-222-7183) in Bayley Hall (for undergraduate and graduate students) and the Law School Financial Aid Office [(973) 642-8687] are fully prepared to assist you in re-packaging your financial aid should you need this assistance to cover the insurance cost.

In order to have the fee for the Undergraduate/Graduate Student Insurance Plan removed from your bill, you must electronically submit the completed waiver form by the end of the day, September 8, 2009. Students who submit waivers for the fall 2009 term after this date will be responsible for the charges incurred for their registration in the student health insurance plan. These charges cannot be removed. Students who enter or become eligible (move from part-time in the fall to full-time in the spring) for student health insurance for the spring 2010 semester must submit a waiver for that term no later than the end of day January 27, 2010. Only one waiver per academic year is required.

In order to have the fee for the Law Student Insurance Plan removed from your bill, you must electronically submit the completed waiver form by August 31, 2009. Students who submit waivers for the fall 2009 term after this date will be responsible for the charged incurred from registration in the student health insurance plan. These charges cannot be removed. Students who enter or become eligible (move from part-time in the fall to full-time in the spring) for student health insurance for the spring 2010 semester must submit a waiver for that term no later than January 19, 2010. Only one waiver per academic year is required.

Details about the Student Insurance Plan as well as a claim form, waiver form, and frequently asked questions can be accessed and downloaded from this web site.  It is important to ask your current health insurance company about the provisions of your coverage before submitting a waiver form to be exempted from the Student Insurance Plan.

I hope the information on this Web site will assist you in understanding the Student Insurance Plan and making an informed choice about this crucial coverage.
