Individual and Group Therapy
The Counseling and Psychological Services Center provides free year-round counseling, crisis, consultative and referral services to the Seton Hall University community. All matriculated students, including undergraduate, graduate, law, and seminary students, are eligible for direct services. Direct services include a maximum of 12 sessions of individual counseling and unlimited group counseling.
In addition to individual counseling, The Counseling and Psychological Services Center also offers a full complement of therapy groups. Group counseling is a type of psychotherapy that provides the opportunity for small groups of students to share common concerns, explore personal issues, and learn new skills under the guidance of group leaders.

Group Therapy Offerings
Journey Through Grief
Join others on a journey through the grieving process as we set on a path toward healing and recovery. The Counseling and Psychological Services Center will be facilitating a support group designed to increase your understanding of the journey through grief and help you process reactions to your personal loss. Recovery Support Group
Are you curious or concerned about your substance or alcohol use? National surveys have consistently found that many students tend to overestimate the drinking and drug use of their peers. Do you miss class, have worried friends/family, or have poorer grades as a result of your drinking/drug use? These signs can be early symptoms of significant problems. If you are considering asking for help or are already committed to sobriety, Counseling Services is offering a support group for students who may have problems with alcohol or drugs. Managing Emotions
The purpose of this group is for members to develop skills to increase ability to manage and understand their emotions. In this group, members will explore ways to live more fully in the present moment, manage negative emotions, and develop inner resources of strength. Group members may be experiencing a variety of difficulties, including interpersonal difficulties, low frustration tolerance, and a fragile sense of self. Family Matters
Having difficulty making sense of your family? This is a therapy group offering students a chance to explore and gain support for the common and uncommon challenges within their families. The group members will offer each other different perspectives, while considering healthy boundaries, addressing conflict, mourning family disappointments, and asserting independence. Students will practice choosing what gifts and lessons from their families they will hold on to, and what they would like to let go of. For more information about the group, call Dr. Kelly J. Womens Psychotherapy Group
This group offers female students an opportunity to come together and work through personal challenges in a confidential, caring and supportive environment. Through discussion, exploration and problem solving of struggles, members will learn to be more effective and satisfied in their lives. Group members will learn to give sensitive and honest feedback and thereby come to understand themselves, their environments, and others on deeper levels. Transitions
Has transitioning to college been more difficult than you expected? Have you been experiencing homesickness or prolonged sadness? Has it been particularly difficult feeling part of the university community? If so, then Transitions may be the group for you. Transitions, is a support group, designed specifically for our first year students experiencing difficulty adjusting to college. Issues around building community relationships, managing rigorous academic demands, as well as navigating the college landscape will be some of the many topics discussed. Stress Free
This is a weekly workshop series where students can come learn various relaxation strategies and techniques to more effectively cope with stress and anxiety. Progressive muscle relaxation, diaphragmatic breathing, and mindfulness will be just some of the many strategies taught and then practiced as a way to increase skills around stress management. Interpersonal Group
This is a co-ed group whose focus will be on examining our experience of relationships with others. Its goal is to build awareness of the qualities and relational patterns which make up our relationship style. The group will promote effective communication to facilitate satisfying relationships. It will offer problem solving of issues which may arise in our daily interactions. The group will examine obstacles and any anxieties which may interfere with good outcomes with people. Good Thinking
This group will focus on our thinking styles, with regards to the contents and qualities of our thoughts. It will examine how our thinking styles impact on our feelings, decisions, and behaviors. Do our ways of thinking bring out the best in us, or do they create self-defeating obstacles to desired outcomes? These are just some of the issues which this group will address. Graduate Group
Are you a graduate student struggling with career issues, academic pressure, strained relationships, or identity concerns?
