The Career Center encourages alumni to recruit students, graduates and fellow alumni (early to mid-career professionals) of their alma mater. You can easily locate Seton Hall talent by:  1) posting a position on our eRecruiting online job posting system; 2) recruiting at on-campus career fairs or via our On Campus Interviewing Program; 3) becoming a Pirate Mentor and 4) connecting with Seton Hall University Alumni Relations.

Become a Pirate Mentor
As a Pirate Mentor, you will connect with current students and fellow alumni to serve as an industry expert and role model on career-related issues. Mentoring and serving as a career coach can be rewarding experiences and keeps you connected to the university, students and fellow alumni, in a vital way. Mentees will connect with you initially via e-mail. Additionally, the Career Center staff often reaches out to our Pirate Mentors to serve on career panels or attend on campus networking events. Please join our Pirate Mentoring Program subgroup in LinkedIn. If you do not have a LinkedIn account, click here to set up your free account. If you already have a LinkedIn account, follow the steps below:

  1. Request to join the Seton Hall University – The Career Center - South Orange group. Once accepted, request to join the Pirate Mentoring Program subgroup.
  2. Please review the Code of Conduct Guidelines and how you can assist a mentee.

Code of Conduct Guidelines for Mentors and Mentees:

  • Acknowledge calls, e-mails and invitations from prospective and current mentees/mentors and respond appropriately in a timely manner (within 48 hours if possible).
  • Meetings should only be held in a business location or public setting.
  • Provide at least 24 hours notice should you need to reschedule a meeting or telephone appointment.
  • Maintain professional interactions and communication (both verbal and written) at all times.
  • Notify The Career Center of any inappropriate or unprofessional behavior by contacting careers@shu.edu

How You Can Assist a Mentee:

  • Provide career guidance in person, by phone or e-mail.
  • Offer ideas on ways you can assist the mentee which can include: advice on how to select an academic major or the importance of internships, insights into career paths in your specific industry, or guidance on how to prepare for an interview or change careers. 
  • Consider allowing the mentee to shadow you for part of a day.
