Kellie Madden is a recent SHU graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She is currently working as a Talent Acquisition Specialist at United Parcel Service (UPS) and loving every minute of it.
After being inspired by a psychology class, she declared psychology as her major. Her first visit to The Career Center resulted in a “shadowing” experience with a professional in Human Resources. “While a student, I had various experiences, but the one that stood out to me the most was shadowing a woman working in Human Resources. She encouraged me to look into HR as a career option.”
As a result of a strong partnership between Seton Hall University, The Career Center and UPS, Kellie received an internship opportunity in their Human Resources Department. In that role, she assisted with creating reports and presentations, analyzing hiring trends, designing reports, and addressing employee workplace questions. During the internship, she learned to multitask and organize the projects she was working on to meet tight deadlines. She said that her classes at Seton Hall prepared her for the workload she received.
In addition to her internship, Kellie was a Research Assistant in The Cognition, Perception, and Embodied Thinking Lab for Dr. Kelly Goedert. “I worked in one lab for a year on a study with Prism Adaptation. I actually did a poster presentation on this project at the Eastern Psychological Association conference in Philadelphia.”
Kellie was praised by her UPS supervisors and, after four months of interning, she was promoted to a professional position in Human Resources. Kellie said that she “encourages participation in internships; it’s the real-life experience students need to narrow down options.”
