Center to Provide Fall Pastoral Formation

diaconal crestThis fall, the Center for Diaconal Formation will continue to supplement its academic program with workshops, retreats, and lectures to address the monthly Saturday pastoral formation needs for deacon candidates and their wives in the Diocese of Paterson. The Center will draw upon the unique capabilities and programs of the Institute for Christian Spirituality and Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology instructors to address the pastoral formation norms in the National Directory for the Formation, Ministry, and Life of Permanent Deacons in the United States.

The intention of these supplemental Saturday events is to develop a “tool kit” of practical and useful ideas, resources and suggestions for deacon candidates to utilize in their parish ministry before and after ordination. Each of the programs will be held at St. Paul Inside the Walls Evangelization Center located in Madison, New Jersey. The upcoming schedule of events includes a variety of topics and speakers:

  • Theology of Work, Julie V. Burkey, D. Min., Adjunct Professor of Pastoral Theology, September 8, 2012;
  • Religious Freedom, Justin M. Anderson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Christian Ethics, October 6, 2012;
  • Communication Skills for Deacons, Rev. James R. White, D. Min., Chaplain Seton Hall Prep, November 3, 2012;
  • Spirituality of the Deacon in Advent, Deacon Michael Berstene and Mary Frances Berstene, December 1, 2012.
