Stillman Team Takes Top Honors In Prestigious NYSSA Investment Research Challenge
Seton Hall > News & Events

The Stillman School of Business has taken top honors in the prestigious New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) 2006 and 2007 Investment Research Challenge, besting teams from well-known area schools such as New York University, Columbia University, Fordham University, Baruch College, Pace University, Rutgers University, St. John's University and YaleUniversity.

The Challenge was introduced by NYSSA, a 70 year old not-for-profit educational organization with more than 10,000 members, to promote best practices in securities research among the next generation of analysts.

For roughly eight months, team members dedicate themselves to the best practices in researching and reporting on a publicly traded company. Conducted in two stages, the challenge event includes the submission of a 10-page written report. Four finalist teams are then asked to present their findings to a panel of industry experts and to convince the judges of the merits of their investment recommendations. The presentation is then followed by an intense Q&A session.

For the past few years, the Stillman School teams have made excellent use of the Centers for Academic Excellence. The teams used the School's state-of-the-art Trading Room to perform in-depth fundamental analysis on the company selected and to build financial models. The 2007 team also used the Seton Hall Sports Polling Institute to conduct a scientific poll of the chosen company's consumers.

As a result of each first place win, the Stillman School has received a $5,000 cash prize, the opportunity to ring the opening bell at a NY exchange (NYSE in 2006 and the NASDAQ in 2007), and high-quality media placements in financial news outlets.
