Come learn how to ground your business practices in the ethics of your faith at the Micah Business Leadership Project’s interactive evening business symposium, “Spirited Leadership: Creating Organizations that Inspire the Soul.” Open to business people and business students, the event will take place Wednesday, April 23. The symposium features William Byron, S. J., author and former president of The Catholic University of America. Father Byron is an economist and one of the country’s foremost authorities on transformational leadership and social Catholic teaching. Having served as a school administrator for several institutions throughout the United States, he will soon become president of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia. Father Byron also shares his extensive knowledge through his writing. His works include Quadrangle Considerations, winner of the Catholic Press Association’s 1990 Book Award in Education; Ethics in New Corporate Culture and Answers from Within: Spiritual Guidelines for Managing Setbacks in Work and Life. Additionally, he writes a bi-weekly column titled “Looking Around” for a Catholic News Service syndicate. Byron holds a doctorate degree in economics from the University of Maryland, two theology degrees from Woodstock College and both a bachelor’s in philosophy and a master’s in economics from Saint Louis University, in addition to his 30 honorary degrees.

Also featured during the event is John J. Degnan, former New Jersey attorney general. Degnan was promoted to the position of vice chairman and chief administrative officer of the Chubb Corporation in 2002 and was designated chief ethics and legal compliance officer three years later. Serving on the administrative boards of several schools and universities, Degnan is also a member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey Disciplinary Oversight Committee. He graduated magna cum laude from Saint Vincent College in 1966 and from Harvard Law School with his Juris Doctor in 1969. He has also received honorary degrees from the College of St. Elizabeth and Seton Hall University.

Founded by the late Deacon William J. Toth, Ph.D., the Micah Business Leadership Project is a series of seminars, retreats and informal dinners designed for CEOs and senior executives. The activities are facilitated by a team of nationally recognized religious and business leaders. Through the Micah Business Leadership Project, senior executives learn to anchor their executive leadership, extend their self awareness, creativity and vision and improve the ethical climate of their businesses.
