In the December 2007 issue of School Administrator, Mel Klein, the Assistant Academic Director of the SetonWorldWide Online Education, Management & Policy Program was featured in the story "Legacy Planning: How Will You Be Remembered?" The article, by Robert M. Galford, was adapted from a book he co-authored with Regina Maruca, Your Leadership Legacy: Why Looking Toward the Future Will Make You a Better Leader Today published by Harvard Business School Press.
According to Galford and Maruca, thinking about one's legacy makes one a better leader. Based on stories of top leaders who have shaped successful careers, the book explores the art of “legacy thinking,” helping leaders to formulate a legacy that will exert a positive effect on their work immediately.
The article in School Administrator features Mel and describes him as especially proud of the number of people he has steered over the years into educational leadership roles: principals, superintendents, administrators at schools, colleges and universities. Klein states, “my greatest pleasure is seeing all the others who have become leaders as well. For me, there’s no greater reward, no greater legacy.”
