Albert Galloway, Program Administrator of the SetonWorldWide ELMP
Program was a speaker at the International Conference on
E-Learning in Quebec City on October 18, 2007. Galloway presented
the results of a formative assessment conducted by SetonWorldWide on
enhancing quality in online learning. SetonWorldWide, the online
campus of Seton Hall University, has adopted a number of formative
program evaluation approaches to assess its online graduate programs.
Understanding the formative assessment process, how to improve
the process and the effects of an on-going formative assessment are
crucial for quality outcomes for those higher education institutions
seeking to continue or expand online courses and programs.
The study titled “Framing Quality in Evaluation Methods of Online
Programs,” explored the program improvement process within the context
of the Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C) quality pillars and documented the
development stages of that process. Highlights of the presentation
included the issues and and perspectives of SWW stakeholders, including
students, instructors, administration and the institution, The Sloan-C
quality online delivery standards are a synthesis of the best practices
of the consortium members and have developed into five pillars of
quality online standards: (1) learning effectiveness; (2) student
satisfaction (3) faculty satisfaction; (4) access; and (5) cost
effectiveness and institutional commitment
The International
Conference on E-Learning, sponsored by the Association for the
Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE) is an international
conference with over 60 countries represented to discuss solutions for
overcoming challenges related to online learning.
