WSOU 89.5 FM, Seton Hall University’s heavy rock radio station, has unveiled a sleek, easy-to-navigate redesign of its website, www.wsou.net. The new-look website features
improved streaming on iHeartRadio for mobile and desktop devices and provides
listeners quick access to concert, sports, programming and other information.
With the redesign, WSOU students are now responsible for
maintaining the website and generating content for it. Students will be contributing features that
have been in high demand from listeners, including album and show reviews,
interviews, show announcements and sports game reaction. Putting students in charge of the website's
upkeep is a key educational component at WSOU and adds another level of
training for students who hold virtually all management positions at the
student-run radio station.
"Our new website was created not only to better serve our
listeners but to enhance our experiential-learning mission as well. By now allowing our students to take the lead
in content management, social media promotion, and multi-media production, we
are helping them develop the skills today's world demands," said WSOU general
manager Mark Maben. "For more than 66
years, WSOU has been one of the nation's premiere training grounds for future
broadcasters and media leaders. Our
improved web and social media presence ensures we can ready Seton Hall students
for the 21st century media environment while remaining true to our roots."
Visitors to the website can learn the illustrious history of
the award-winning radio station and read profiles of the DJs. In addition, well-known alumni of the radio
station are listed, and there is a contact form for alumni who want to
reconnect with WSOU. A "Support" tab
allows listeners to contribute directly to WSOU and earmark the donation for
the station's General Fund or Scholarship Fund.
Further improvements will be added throughout the summer and
into the fall, including simplified streaming of sports broadcasts, and new
content such as online contests, artist interview videos, podcasts, and more.
