Servant Leader AwardEight Seton Hall University students were honored for their outstanding work and dedication as servant leaders in communities throughout the world at the tenth annual Servant Leader Awards, held on campus on April 8, 2014.

Members of the Servant Leader Awards Committee, comprised of faculty and administrators from throughout the Seton Hall community, reviewed dozens of nominations before inviting a select number of students to participate in an interview process and eventually recognizing these inspiring individuals.

"The purpose of the Servant Leader Award is to honor students who exemplify the ideals of servant leadership in their lives," according to Michelle Peterson, director of Seton Hall’s Division of Volunteer Efforts. "These awards are extraordinarily important to Seton Hall… they’re some of the highest recognitions bestowed on our students."

Four students were honored with the Servant Leader Award, and four were selected for honorable mention recognition. The evening included a dinner, with remarks from various campus leaders including Dr. Gabriel Esteban, president of Seton Hall University, and Servant Leader Award Committee co-chairs Peterson and Daniel Nugent.

The Most Reverend Bernard Hebda, Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Newark, served as the evening’s keynote speaker. While offering his thoughts on leadership, and reflecting on his own experiences serving others, Hebda encouraged all those present to respond to the neediest among us.
