Seton Hall Celebrates the Canonizations of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II

Pope John Paul IISeton Hall University will hold a number of events to celebrate the double canonization of Blessed Popes John XXIII and John Paul II on Sunday, April 27. At a Papal Mass in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City, Pope Francis will officially declare two of his predecessors to be saints.

Seton Hall will mark the event with prayer, reflection and tributes to the holiness, vision and legacies of two of the greatest popes in the modern era.

Greg Tobin, the author of The Good Pope: The Making of a Saint and the Remaking of the Church--The Story of John XXIII and Vatican II, will explore a turning point in the history of the Catholic Church – the surprise election of Cardinal Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli to the throne of St. Peter.

This will be a time of reflection on the popes, confession, praise, and worship of the Blessed Sacrament

A Vatican diplomat who served under Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, Archbishop James Patrick Green is now the Apostolic Nuncio to Peru. He will explore Pope John Paul II's powerful impact on world events and his pursuit of human rights.

The celebration has been organized by the Seton Hall University Office of Mission and Ministry. The lectures are sponsored by the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies, the Department of Catholic Studies, and Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology.
