Men’s Basketball Upset Win over No. 3 Villanova Scores Big in Social Media and Traditional Media
Immediately after sophomore Sterling Gibbs’ step-back jumper at the buzzer gave the Seton Hall men’s basketball team an upset win over the nationally No. 3-ranked Villanova, “Seton Hall” lit up on Twitter. On Thurs., March 13, “Seton Hall” was the #1 New York area trend and the #7 national trend, with over 27,000 mentions and 12,000 retweets respectively via more than 18,000 unique voices. SHU fans, basketball fans and major sports and athletic network accounts all jumped in with comments.
On Facebook, the Best in Sports page gave Seton Hall “Best Upset of the Day.” One fan may have summed it up best with his post, “Almost as good as winning it all !! GO PIRATES !!!”
