Michael Farris SmithNovelist Michael Farris Smith will read from his novel, Rivers, as part of the Poetry-in-the-Round reading series at 7 p.m. in the Walsh Gallery on Wednesday, February 5.

Michael Farris Smith is the author of the novel, Rivers (Simon & Schuster 2013) and the novella, The Hands of Strangers (Main Street Rag). He is a native Mississippian who has spent considerable time living abroad in France and Switzerland. He has been awarded the Mississippi Arts Commission Literary Arts Fellowship, the Transatlantic Review Award for Fiction, the Alabama Arts Council Fellowship Award for Literature, and the Brick Streets Press Short Story Award. His short fiction has twice been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and his fiction and non-fiction have appeared in numerous literary reviews and anthologies. He teaches at the Mississippi University for Women and lives in Columbus, Mississippi.
