Shadows of Forgotten AncestorsThursday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m., in Fahy 236, Slavic Club will be showing Sergey Parajanov's masterpiece, Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (Тени заытых предков).

Sergei Paradjanov, along with Tarkovsky and Dovzhenko, is one of the most important Soviet directors of the last century who stunned the world audiences in 1964 with his Ukrainian masterpiece, Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors (Тени заытых предков), popularly known as the Romeo and Juliet of the Carpathians. It has been adopted from Mikhaylo Kotsynbinsky’s novel, Tini Zabutych Predkiv. The film is set among the Hutsul people of the Western Ukraine, an isolated ethnic group who live in the upper reaches of the mountain range. The film is in Ukrainian language from the Hutsul region with English subtitles.
