Construction Begins on Facilities
Construction is currently underway on a new fitness center and
varsity athletic training room, two major capital facilities projects
designed to enhance the physical fitness experience of both the general
student body and Seton Hall's student-athletes.
With construction expected to last one year, the new fitness center
will provide a wide range of state-of-the-art exercise opportunities for
students, faculty, staff and Richie Regan Athletics & Recreation
Center members. The Recreation Center will remain open during
construction and there will still be access to the current student
fitness center and accompanying facilities.
The defining visual feature to the building's exterior will be a new
rounded glass façade, which will provide an ample amount of natural
light to illuminate the dual level workout facility in addition to
allowing members to look out across Seton Drive onto Seton Hall's
"The construction of this new, state-of-the art facility will
significantly enhance the physical fitness capabilities for members of
the Seton Hall community," said Director of Athletics Patrick Lyons.
"This capital improvement is one of several facility upgrades that will
greatly benefit our student-athletes and the general student body at
The two-tiered fitness center will offer both expanded fitness
options and programming in addition to a larger space dedicated solely
to the SHU community. Brand new cardio equipment will be available on
both the first and second floor of the facility and will include
treadmills, elliptical machines and stationary bikes, each equipped with
individual viewing screens. All of the cardio stations will face out
toward the exterior glass wall.
The first floor will also include circuit weight training equipment
and a new reception and office area, designed to supplement the wide
array of offerings on the second floor.
In addition to the second cardio room, the top floor will contain a
space designed specifically for free weight training and a pair of large
dance and fitness studio multi-purpose rooms, each slated to be larger
than 1,100 square feet.
The renovations are not just limited to the brand new exercise space
but also include upgrades to locker rooms, the field house floor and
building infrastructure. Below the first floor cardio and weight
training space will be new men's and women's locker rooms, which will
continue feature direct access to the Arthur E. Imperattore Natatorium.
Varsity Training Room
While the new fitness center will benefit the entire Seton Hall
student body, the new varsity training room will be exclusively for
"It is paramount that we provide our student-athletes as much
assistance in the medical and athletic training fields as possible in
order for them to compete on a level as high as the BIG EAST," Lyons
said. "Rehabilitation and recovery are essential in the fostering of a
student-athletes' career. With these enhancements, we're taking a major
step in ensuring our student-athletes receive the best care. The
training room project is one of several new capital projects we have
planned in the next few years to give our student-athletes the best
possible experience at Seton Hall."
The current training room will be expanded and receive a major
makeover with the newest advancements in medicine and fitness
technology. Three 14-foot in-ground Hydro Worx tubs will be installed
to best serve the student-athletes' rehabilitation and recovery. Of
these tubs, one is a "Polar Plunge" for cold therapy, one is a "Thermal
Plunge," for heat therapy and the third includes a state-of-the-art
underwater treadmill. The third tub operates with variable water depths
and includes a video system to monitor the student-athlete's progress
on the treadmill both above and beneath the water line.
The training room will be adorned with Seton Hall's marks and also
includes new treatment areas, tables and taping stations. It will also
include an on-sight office for the Pirates' physicians.
