The Provost’s office is launching the Ethically Speaking initiative
with the intent of increasing ethical thinking, critical analysis,
speaking, and debate on and off campus. A central goal of this
initiative is have Seton Hall students from across the University
actively engage in ethics related debate competitions, including the
prestigious Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl (IEB).
The IEB brings together hundreds of students across North America to
debate and morally assess some of the most pressing and complex ethical
issues facing society today, including ethical issues in business and
professional ethics, biomedical ethics, environmental ethics, and social
and political affairs. Preparing for and competing in the IEB and other
events will provide you with a deeper and more critical understanding
of philosophical, practical, and professional ethics. It will also help
you to persuasively articulate, communicate, and defend your positions
in public forums.
We will have an introductory meeting Thursday, November 1 at 6 p.m.
in Fahy 129. Please join us! If you cannot make the meeting but are
interested in participating please email Ethically Speaking co-directors
Catherine Zizik (Communication) Catherine.Zizik@shu.edu and Abe Zakhem (Philosophy) Abe.Zakhem@shu.ed.
