Seton Hall > News & Events

Dr. Chrysanthy GriecoThe Heart of the University Retreat Series gives faculty and administrators of all faiths the opportunity for input and guided reflection. The series is co-sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership.

The first retreat, given by Dr. Chrysanthy Grieco on the theme of Imagination and Art: The Sacred Mysteries of Byzantine Iconography will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012, from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. in the Chancellor’s Suite, Student Center.

This retreat will focus on the imagination as sacred art. A series of icons taking the viewer from the birth of Jesus Christ to His Resurrection will illustrate the spiritual mysteries of Byzantine iconography. The method and materials of these paintings reveal what the monks of Meteora called “the meeting of Heaven and earth.” The creativity is seen in how they illuminate the Divine Word. They invite the viewer into the Eternal Kingdom.

Chrysanthy M. Grieco is an Associate Professor of English. She has recently served as Dean of University Libraries, Director of Special Academic Programs in A&S, and Chair of the English Department. She is an international editor for the Eastern Orthodox Patriarchate and a life-long communicant of Eastern Orthodoxy.
