CEHS Grads Receive NJ State Awards
The College of Education and Human Services at Seton Hall University is proud to announce that recent graduates, Kerri Rogers of Bayonne, NJ and Lianne Messina, a resident of Staten Island, NY, were two of 16 recipients of the 2012 New Jersey Distinguished Student Teacher Award. Megan Dunham from Garnet Valley, PA was also recognized by the state for her work with students.
Award recipients were honored at a ceremony hosted by the New Jersey Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. This annual award, administered by the New Jersey Department of Education, publicly recognizes the year’s top graduates of teacher education programs in New Jersey’s colleges and universities. After being nominated by faculty, the nominees submit a rigorous dossier, which is then reviewed by a panel of distinguished state educators.
Kerri Rogers, who ranked number one among all nominees across the state, graduated with a 4.0 from the Integrated Early Childhood/Elementary/Special Education program with a concentration in Speech-Language Pathology, a major in Social and Behavioral Sciences and a minor in Social Work. Kerri’s goal is to “help children develop ‘a voice’ and empower them to use it”. She will continue her graduate studies in Speech-Language Pathology at Seton Hall University.
Lianne Messina graduated from the Integrated Early Childhood/Elementary/Special Education program with a concentration in Social and Behavioral Sciences and a minor in Social Work. She currently teaches at Park Avenue School in Orange, NJ where she began an after-school community service program instilling in students the values of servant leadership and environmental awareness.
Megan Dunham graduated from the Secondary Education program with a concentration in Biology and was a 2012 recipient of Seton Hall’s Experiential Education Award. Megan’s goal for her students is “to embrace the sciences with open minds and curiosity…to learn to respect themselves and all life” while implementing her educational philosophy through inquiry-based instruction and kinesthetic activities. Megan will continue her studies this upcoming fall semester in the Masters in Biology program at Seton Hall University.
