Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute presents Ballet Hispanico

Ballet Hispanico captivates audiences worldwide with its magnetic energy and eclectic choreography as it fuses Latino movement, music and traditions with classical and contemporary dance forms to create an experience in which theatricality and passion propel every move.

Ballet Hispanico and the Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute formed a natural partnership for this special event on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. The Company’s work matches the mission and goals of the Institute and its focus on the culture, experiences and contributions of Latinos in the United States and as members of a global community. The Institute encourages research and study into the Latino experience, with emphasis on the sciences, business and finance, literature and the arts, to further advance intercultural understanding. The international perspective of Ballet Hispanico opens dialogue about the Hispanic Diaspora in our contemporary world.

Ballet Hispanico’s 13 members perform works by the foremost choreographers of our time and emerging artists. The Company has performed for over two million people in the United States, Europe and South America with a repertory of 100 works. Its superb performers represent the highest level of artistic achievement.

Ballet Hispanico will feature work by four contemporary choreographers: Ron De Jesus, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Andrea Miller, and Pedro Ruiz. Traditional Latin and Cuban rhythms, classical and folkloric dance techniques define these pieces.

Preferred orchestra seating to this special performance is $35, general admission is $25, seniors are $15, all students, Seton Hall faculty and employees are $8. For tickets call the SOPAC box office (973) 313-2787. To reach the Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute call (973) 761-9422 or e-mail latinoinstitute@shu.edu.
