Caring Hearts, Creative Minds

BoatsThe phrase "Nursing is an art form" will once again take on a whole new meaning.

The College of Nursing will host its Second Annual Art Exhibit in the Galleon Hallway of the University Center beginning Monday, November 16, through Thursday, November 19.  The display will feature original artwork created by College faculty, administration and staff including oil paintings, photography and needlework.  Additionally, a 12-month calendar featuring some of the displayed pieces from both last year and this year will be available for purchase at the exhibit.

The College extends a warm invitation to the entire Seton Hall community to stop in at any time during the week.  Please also feel free to join us for a reception on Wednesday, November 18, from 4 p.m. -- 6 p.m.

Those who will be displaying their colorful creations include:

Mary Ann Barra
Maureen Byrnes
Catherine Cassidy
Pamela Galehouse
Leah Johnston-Rowbotham
Marion Cone Lapchak
Sheila J. Linz
Joan Preston
Phyllis Russo
Bonnie A. Sturm
Kathleen Sternas

"Nurses are caregivers, and as such, their lives can often be a bit busy and stressful," says Leah Johnston-Rowbotham, College of Nursing instructor and one of the many responsible for coordinating the exhibit.  "One of the outlets that relieves that stress is the expression of creativity."

"That might come in the shape of a gourmet meal, a painting, a quilt or a timeless photograph," she continues.  "Regardless, we think it is a great gift to our students in this busy and chaotic world to know that there is always time , if you make it so, to hone and share your gifts.  It is a creative release for the caregiver.   It, too, is an outlet that is giving."
