Student Printing Allowance Adjusted
Seton Hall > News & Events

On September 24, representatives of the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable’s Digital Sustainability committee met to discuss the information gathered at the student session held on September 18 regarding the new printing policies.  After hearing student concerns and revisiting the data we have developed the following plan:

While the data supports that the 400/200 (FT/PT students) printing allowance for this semester is appropriate based on last year’s printing, we agree that some additional steps might have been taken prior to establishing the new policy. Toward that end, over the current academic year we will work with faculty and encourage them to find alternatives to student printing of material and with students to encourage them to use the technology available to reduce the amount of printing on campus.

In the meantime the printing allowance will be adjusted as follows:

Fall 2009
800 pages for FT undergraduate and graduate students
400 pages for PT students

Spring 2010
600 pages for FT undergraduate and graduate students
300 pages for PT students

Fall 2010
Return to the current limits:
400 pages for FT undergraduate and graduate students
200 pages for PT students

We are also looking into the acquisition of printers capable of printing double sided for all public computer labs and the Information Commons in the University Library. Together with the University Library we have convened a group to unify the printing and copying system in the University Library onto one platform that will take Pirate’s Gold as a form of payment.

The committee has brought the concerns around students’ extracurricular activities, particularly student clubs and organizations printing needs, to the attention of Community Development & Student Government Association and we are actively working on solutions to this.

Finally, the Digital Sustainability Committee has requested from the Student Government Association that at least two students, one undergraduate and one graduate; join the committee to help us achieve our goals moving forward.

We look forward to continuing these discussions as we work toward the creation of a more sustainable campus environment
