Fireproof

Recommended by the Institute for Christian Spirituality’s STEPS Coordinator, Jo-Anne Lieder, Fireproof was the #1 inspirational movie in 2008.  This highly acclaimed movie is a story of challenge, faith, perseverance, hope, love and commitment in marriage.

With his marriage about to crumble and divorce proceedings looming, firefighter Captain Caleb Holt is challenged by his father to engage in a 40-day experiment called “The Love Dare.”  It is through this experiment that Caleb becomes open to the love of Christ and learns how to demonstrate his love for his wife, Catherine.  But is it too late?  Will Caleb, who embodies the firefighters’ motto, “never leave your partner behind,” be able to rescue his marriage before it burns up in flames?

The Catholic Home:  Celebrations and Traditions for Holidays, Feast Days, and Every Day By Meredith Gould
Recommended by Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology’s Institutional Research Specialist, Eilish Harrington, this book presents faith-based activities organized by the liturgical calendar of the year.  It draws upon traditions of the past while establishing new traditions that can be passed along to future generations.  The author’s suggestions for activities are supported by excerpts from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the appendix features Catholic prayers and a guide for praying the Rosary.  The foreword is written by The Most Reverend Paul G. Bootkoski, Bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen, New Jersey.  For more information, see http://www.catholicmom.com/bc2004gould.htm.
