SHMS OT International Exchange Program Launched!
In early September, Dr. Brian Shulman, Dean of the School of Health and Medical Sciences
(SHMS), along with Dr. Ruth Segal, Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy (OT), and Professor Catherine Colluci, Director of OT Clinical Education, visited Metropolitan University College (MUC) in Copenhagen, Denmark to sign an international collaborative agreement. Students from Seton Hall's Master of Science in OT program will now be able to complete part of their clinical education in Denmark! This agreement is similar to one signed last year that allows SHU's Doctor of Physical Therapy students and MUC students to participate in clinical education exchanges.
During the visit, information on OT curricula and health care delivery was shared. The faculty visited two potential clinical sites: Hvidovre Hospital, a rehabilitation facility which treats traumatic brain injury and stroke patients; and Nettet Group Home, a community based rehabilitation program for young adults with mental illness.
The exchange program will broaden the OT students' knowledge of health care delivery as it helps them expand their cultural awareness. In February 2010, two Danish OT students will attend SHU to complete 12 weeks of clinical training, while two SHU OT students will travel to MUC for 12 weeks of clinical education.
This November, SHMS will host colleagues from MUC who will visit the SHU campus and tour several SHMS clinical sites.
