Chamber Orchestra Kremlin opens the Seton Hall Arts Council’s Classical Concert Series at SOPAC, Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. A special pre-concert lecture by Maestro Rachlevsky will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Chamber Orchestra Kremlin includes some of Russia’s finest young string players and has carved a special international niche for itself with its warm and energetic performances. Founded in 1991 and led by Misha Rachlevsky, the orchestra has earned national and international recognition as one of Russia's leading ensembles.
Maestro Rachlevsky, who specializes in chamber music and the repertoire for chamber orchestra, began his musical career as a violinist. He trained at the Moscow Conservatory and the Gnessin Academy of Music. In 1973, Rachlevsky left the Soviet Union living and working on three continents. In 1991 the Swiss record label Claves invited him to record works by Russian composers. Rachlevsky organized a special ensemble of Russian musicians, founding the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, and recorded compositions by Nikolay Myaskovsky, Mieczyslaw (Moisei) Vainberg, Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky, Kalinnikov, and Danish composer, Niels Wilhelm Gade.
Chamber Orchestra Kremlin performs in Moscow and tours regularly in North and South America, Europe and the Far East. Widely recorded in traditional and contemporary repertoire, the ensemble was recently praised by the New York Times for their “warm, full-blooded and virtuosic playing with colorfully shaped, gleaming phrases.”
General admission for this performance is $25, seniors and alumni are $15, all students, and Seton Hall University faculty and employees are $8. The pre-concert lecture is free and open to the public. To order tickets, please call the SOPAC box office (973) 313-2787.
This performance by Chamber Orchestra Kremlin is made possible by the Seton Hall Arts Council. Upcoming concerts will feature The Daedalus String Quartet, American pianist, Jeremy Denk, and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.
