The Board of Trustees of the Sr. Rose Thering Endowment will hold its annual Orientation Program and Teacher/Scholar reunion on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. in the Beck Rooms on the first floor of Walsh Library at Seton Hall University.
This event provides an opportunity for current and former teachers enrolled in graduate courses in Jewish-Christian Studies at Seton Hall to meet the SRTE Board, as well as introducing the scholarship donors to the teacher-recipients of the SRTE financial awards.
The featured speaker for the event will be Norman Conard, a social studies teacher from Fort Scott, Kansas. Over ten years ago Conard encouraged his students to research and create an original drama, “Life in a Jar,” about the extraordinary life of Irena Sendler, a Holocaust heroine. Had these students not undertaken the project of telling Irena Sendler’s story it may have been lost to history. With the help of the Milken Family Foundation, Conard travels the country to discuss the curriculum he developed for teaching about the Holocaust. He will share his insights about his unique educational approach at the SRTE Orientation.
This program is open to all Seton Hall faculty and students.
