Heart of the University, Faculty Retreat Series 2009-2010

Monsignor Richard Liddy reflects on Research as Conversion in the first of four retreats for faculty of all faiths.

The Heart of the University Retreat Series gives faculty and administration of all faiths the opportunity for quiet reflection guided by four members of the University's priest community.  The series is co-sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership.

The first retreat, given by Msgr. Richard Liddy on the theme of Research as Conversion, will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, from 9 to 11 a.m., in the Regents Suite, Presidents Hall.

This retreat will focus on the spirituality of everyday life  - and especially the everyday lives of persons working in a university: faculty, staff, administration. It will focus on what a university “does” in the contemporary world  - and how through living our lives as gracefully as we can, each of us can contribute to building up our families, our communities and our world.  Prayer, reflection and deep conversation will be some of the practices focused upon.

Richard M. Liddy is the University Professor of Catholic Thought and Culture and the Director of the Center for Catholic Studies at Seton Hall University. He is also a member of the Religious Studies Department.  Previously he was rector of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology and spiritual director at the North American College in Rome.  He has written on the works of Bernard Lonergan, Susanne Langer and John Henry Newman.

The Faculty Retreat Series continues with the following directors and dates, all held from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Regents Suite, Presidents Hall:

Rev. Paul Holmes                      Wednesday, December 2, 2009
Msgr. Joseph Reilly                   Monday, February 22, 2010
Rev. Christopher Ciccarino    Monday, March 29, 2010
