SHMS Holds Certificate and Awards Ceremony Seton Hall > News & Events Thursday, July 9, 2009 by: Judith Malinowski, PhD On June 10, 2009, The School of Health and Medical Sciences, Division of Medical Residencies and Fellowships, held its annual graduation ceremony in Jubilee Hall. Eighty-three residents and fellows graduated from 20 clinical programs at five (5) affiliated hospitals - Saint Michael's Medical Center in Newark, Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson,Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth, JFK Hospital in Edison, and Saint Francis Hospital in Trenton. The event opened with a processional led by the Seton Hall bagpipers. John W. Sensakovic, M.D., Ph.D., associate dean for the division of medical residency and fellowship programs, was the Master of Ceremonies. Following a welcome by A. Gabriel Esteban, Ph.D., Provost, Dr. Vincent McInerney, chair of orthopedic surgery, introduced the keynote speaker, Dr. Henry Sherk of Drexel University College of Medicine. Seven research studies from the fields of basic sciences, clinical medicine, and the health sciences, which were presented at the annual research colloquium on May 8th, were selected for awards. Sumitra Yalamanchili, D.D.S., received the Franczak Scholarship Award for excellence in Dentistry and Dennis J. Cleri, M.D. received the Archbishop Myers Educator Award. Some of the graduates will be continuing their education in clinical subspecialties, such as cardiology, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, hematology and oncology, and critical care medicine.
