Based on the Book of Job, the play takes place at the Benjamin mansion on the North Shore of Long Island, where resides a tycoon, his wife, a drunken, prodigal son, a pair of kookie twins and two servants. Then one night a messenger from God enters to tell Joe that he is God's favorite and all he needs to do is renounce God. Joe refuses and thus begins a series of tragic but hysterical events. Amid these seemingly impossible circumstances, Simon poses some large questions about life, but never loses his wonderful sense of humor. This is one of Neil Simon's funniest!
