What exactly took place during the priesthood crisis of the 1960s?

Catholic University of America professor Leslie Woodcock Tentler, Ph.D., will explore this question through her lecture, “The Crisis of the Priesthood in the 1960s: What Happened and Why?” on Wednesday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. Another insightful part of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology's Archbishop Gerety Lecture Series, the event will take place in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Immaculate Conception Seminary, in Lewis Hall. Tentler is Ordinary Professor of History and Knights of Columbus Scholar at the Catholic University of America. She specializes in the history of religion in the United States, particularly American Catholicism. Her most recent book is Catholics and Contraception: An American History (Cornell, 2004). She is also the editor of The Church Confronts Modernity: Catholicism Since 1950 in the United States, Ireland, and Quebec (The Catholic University of America Press, 2007). She is currently working on a history of the Catholic diocesan priesthood in the United States.
 
The Archbishop Gerety Fund for Ecclesiastical History was established by the Most Reverend Peter Leo Gerety, Archbishop Emeritus of Newark, to advance studies in ecclesiastical history, especially the history of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States. Among its various activities, the Fund sponsors lectures each year at Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology.
