Lenten Faculty Retreat

Father John Russell
Father Jack Russell

Designed with busy faculty in mind, Father John Russell, of the School of Theology, will be giving a retreat for the faculty on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 9 to 11:15 a.m. in the Regents Suite. His topic will be Lent with Saint Therese of Lisieux. He explains his theme as follows: “While penance has its place in the life of all Christians, a question arises as to the true purpose of penance. Saint Therese can only view penance in relationship to Jesus Christ. She could not do any severe penances. She accepted the penance of everyday life with its many 'pinpricks' or annoyances as her way to identify with the Paschal mystery."

Father Russell is a well-known scholar of St. Therese of Lisieux, and a popular professor of preaching and spiritual direction. He is currently in his twenty-seventh year on the faculty of the School of Theology, where he also serves as the assistant Spiritual Director. Father is known for his engaging style, and gives retreats and workshops both domestically and internationally.

This retreat is sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. David Foster (ext. 6042).
