Nonprofit Sector Resource Institute
NSRI

This Spring, the Nonprofit Sector Resource Institute, an arm of the Center for Public Service, will again offer two very successful nonprofit capacity building programs, the Board Leadership Institute and the Financial Management Certificate Program. These professional development programs are:

The Board Leadership Institute (BLI) is designed to enhance the effectiveness of individuals when serving on nonprofit boards. BLI is an innovative program designed to maximize the enormous potential for executives to be effective leaders in the nonprofit sector in the role of nonprofit board members. BLI is a collaboration of Seton Hall University's Center for Public Service/Nonprofit Sector Resource Institute and Volunteer Management Centers, Inc. (VMC). Classes will be held on the Seton Hall University campus in South Orange on May 14 - June 11, 2009 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. The cost of the BLI is $1,000 for the training and the networking and board matching services. Partial tuition assistance may also be available through BLI.

The focus of the Financial Management Certificate Program (FMCP) is on the integration of financial information into the management and governance processes. FMCP will appeal to anyone desiring to learn more about nonprofit finance, including:

  • Executive directors and program directors wishing to improve their capacity to use financial information as a management tool.
  • Development staffers wishing to enhance their capacity to integrate financial information into compelling funding proposals.
  • Financial managers wishing to deepen their understanding of the role of financial information and financial reporting and control in the management processes.
  • Nonprofit board members desiring to gain a better understanding of nonprofit finance, and of their role in oversight and control, and budgeting and planning.

Classes will be held on the Seton Hall University campus in South Orange on May 9 - June 13 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prior experience in finance is not a prerequisite.
The cost of the FMCP is $1,200. Partial tuition assistance may be available.
