The Loudest Rock: 60 Years of Pirate Radio on Exhibit Seton Hall > News & Events Thursday, February 12, 2009 by: Katherine Fox The Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall
University will be hosting the exhibition, “The Loudest Rock: 60 Years
of Pirate Radio,” a show dedicated to the history and achievements of
the WSOU 89.5 FM radio station. The
exhibition is co-curated by Jake Calvert, M.A. '09, Brooke Cheyney,
M.A. `09 and Kate Fox, M.A. '09, all of whom are second-year Museum
Professions graduate students at Seton Hall.
“The Loudest Rock” will explore the evolution of WSOU, a once small,
campus radio station which has transformed into a nationally
recognized, non-commercial radio force that has become a leading forum
in music, band promotion, broadcast technology, news coverage, special
programming and sports broadcasting.
The exhibition will bring to light the many facets of WSOU's history;
student involvement, technological advancements, and the station's
ever-evolving music and educational programming. Gold and platinum
records from world-famous artists, signed posters, photographs, and
other memorabilia will be featured along with interactive computer and
listening stations, as well as a mock broadcast studio setup and a
selection of the station's many achievement awards.
The exhibition runs March 2 through April 10, 2009. The opening
reception is Thursday, March 5, 5 - 8 p.m. All are welcome.
The Walsh Gallery is free and open to the public Monday through
Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. An exhibition brochure will be
available at the gallery.
