National History DayOn Saturday, March 21, 2009, Seton Hall University will welcome several hundred students from middle and high schools throughout northern New Jersey who will present their research. The Department of History, with support from the College of Arts and Sciences, will welcome these contestants, their teachers, and parents to the 2008-2009 Kennith E. Behring National History Day Contest for the Northern New Jersey Region for the second consecutive year.

History Day
is designed to excite students about history by teaching them how to research and evaluate historical evidence.  The theme of this year's competition is “The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies.”

Throughout the day, the students will engage in a variety of competition categories, from research papers, websites, and exhibits to documentaries and stage performances. In each category, those who place will advance onto the statewide competition in May, after which the highest-ranked will participate in the national competition in Washington, D.C.

Registration for contestants and judges will be open from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the lower level of Jubilee Hall. The program will start at 9:30 AM with a welcome in Jubilee Auditorium. At 10:00 AM, competitions will begin at designated sites throughout South Orange campus. Exhibits will be open for public viewing in the Bishop Dougherty University Center from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

Announcement and presentation of awards will be at 2:30 PM in Jubilee Auditorium.
