The TLT
Center will be holding a Digital Storytelling workshop for faculty.
Digital Storytelling is defined as a process of using various
multimedia tools and objects to create a personal story. These
multimedia objects can include images, video, music, voice narration,
and animation, to name a few examples. Digital stories can be focused
on any topic or subject area and can vary in length (typically they are
fairly short). Elements of a digital story might include interviews,
personal narration, or clips from previously recorded audio or video.
There are many ways to incorporate digital stories into teaching and
learning environments. Some examples include:
Student reflective pieces to demonstrate the outcome of an
internship, project, or other learning experience
Team-based projects allowing students to work together, share
ideas, and demonstrate their understanding of a specific topic
Faculty-created stories to explain a particular concept
The workshop will include an informational session on digital
storytelling and a description of the process. During lunch, we will
have several faculty presenters discussing how they have used digital
storytelling in their courses here at SHU. The afternoon will engage
participants in a hands-on session where you will be given the
opportunity to create your own Digital Story project and share it with
others at the conclusion of the workshop.
