working for the Church and wondered if you have the particular gifts
that are needed for Church service? The Institute for Christian
Spirituality will present a full-day workshop aimed at helping
individuals to answer just that question.
The Institute’s second annual Ministry Resource Day will take place at
St. Peter the Apostle Parish in River Edge on Saturday, January 31 from
9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (attendance at the 9 a.m. mass is optional).
Topics and activities will include a brief history of lay service in
the Church and a spiritual gifts inventory to assist participants in
discovering and confirming their own gifts, as well as discussion of
the various roles and responsibilities that make up parish ministry and
possible resources for further education and training. In addition,
Monsignor Robert H. Slipe, pastor of St. Peter’s, will speak on the
pastor’s view of gifts needed for church service, and Diane Pew,
pastoral associate at St. Joseph Church in Maplewood, will share her
thoughts on her personal journey to professional church service. There
will also be opportunity for prayer and reflection, as well as group
sharing and asking questions
The day will be facilitated by Julie V. Burkey, M.A.P.M., coordinator
of the Christian Employment Outreach (CEO) Program, and Jo-Anne Lieder,
