Africana Studies hosts poet and performer David Mills
Seton Hall > News & Events

The Department of Africana Studies continues its 2008-2009 Writer/Speaker Series by hosting its second guest, Poet and Performer David Mills.  The event will take place on December 3, 2008 from 4:00-6:30 pm in Living Room, Bishop Dougherty University Center.

Actor and writer, David Mills has worked professionally in the dramatic and literary community for nearly two decades. For three years, Mr. Mills lived as writer-in-residence in Langston Hughes' landmark Harlem home. There he was inspired to put together a one-person show of Hughes' work, which he has performed in colleges around the country. This one-hour long theatre piece takes you on an odyssey spanning five decades of Hughes work, introducing the audience to Hughes' notable Harlem characters, such as Madam Alberta K. Johnson.

Mr. Mills received a Master's degree from New York University in English Literature and poetry (Henry James scholar '90) and graduated with a bachelor's degree--cum laude--in Economics from Yale University.

Partial funding for this event has been provided by the College of Arts and Sciences thanks to the generous support of its President's Advisory Council.
