Professor John Haught visits from Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University to discuss the main claims of best-selling books by who he terms the “new atheists,” authors such as Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennet, and Christopher Hitchens. Haught examines their shared declaration that science and faith are incompatible and critiques the belief of Dawkins and Dennett that evolutionary science can provide the ultimate explanation of ethics and religion. Haught will speak on Wednesday, November 12th at 4:00PM in Jubilee Hall Auditorium. About the Speaker Professor Haught is a Senior Fellow of Science and Religion at the Woodstock Theological Center. He was formerly Chair and Professor in the Department of Theology at Georgetown University. His area of specialization is systematic theology, with a particular interest in issues pertaining to science, cosmology, evolution, ecology, and religion. Professor Haught lectures internationally on many issues related to science and religion. He is the author of many books, most recently the following:
- God and the New Atheism: A Critical Response to Dawkins, Harris, and Hitchens (2008)
- Christianity and Science: Toward a Theology of Nature (2007)
- Is Nature Enough? Meaning and Truth in the Age of Science (2006)
