Please join us at Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology for “Vattimo and Theology: The Postmodern Christianity of Gianni Vattimo,” a lecture and book signing by Reverend Thomas G. Guarino, S.T.D., Professor of Systematic Theology. The event will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 3:45 p.m. in the Seminary Refectory, Lewis Hall. A wine and cheese reception will follow.
Father Guarino earned a B.A. at Seton Hall University, an S.T.B. from Rome's Gregorian University and an S.T.L. and an S.T.D. from the Catholic University of America. His previous publications include Revelation and Truth (1993) and Foundations of Systematic Theology (2005) and scores of articles and reviews in theological and philosophical journals.
In his new book, Father Guarino:
- Introduces the postmodern thought of the Italian philosopher Gianni Vattimo;
- Examines Vattimo's claim that postmodernity allows for a reappearance of Christianity in the public square;
- Discusses Vattimo's claim that secularization constitutes one of Christianity's greatest triumphs; and
- Asks to what extent Vattimo's revisioned Christianity offers a possibility for contemporary Christian faith.
