Africana Studies Speaker-Lecture Series- Spring 2017  

In celebration of Poetry month, Africana Studies Speaker-Lecture Series hosts an evening of poetry with poets, Ghana Imani and Laurie Pine. This event will take place on April 19, 6-9:30 p.m., Chancellor 's Suite, University Center.

Africana StudiesA writer and poet, Ghana Imani honed her spoken word skills in the Brooklyn poetry scene and became a featured artist at the Brooklyn Tea Party, Nuyorican Poets Café, The Point, African Globe Studio Theater and other spoken word venues. She also shared the stage with The Vibe Khameleons, RhaGoddess, Tantra, UNIVERSES, Mariposa and others. Her most recent essay can be found in We Got Issues! A Young Woman's Guide to A Bold, Courageous and Empowered Life. She curates ADINKRA HOUSE, a North Jersey's exclusive and cozy spot for singers, dancers, and poets. Her poetry collection is entitled To Be Continued.

Laurie A. Pine Laurie A. Pine is Director of Media Relations at Seton Hall University. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Political Science from George Washington University and a Master of Arts in Corporate and Public Communication from Seton Hall. Her poetry has appeared in Sensations Magazine, Issue 40, Retro, and in The Casino Anthology, a collection of original poems and photographs about Asbury Park and the Jersey Shore. She has been featured throughout the area at poetry and prose gatherings as well as in a production of David Mamet's Oleanna at the Baird Theatre. Her play, The Rocking Chair, was performed at Drew University.
