On Oct. 17, the Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute held its El Caribe Gala at the New York Athletic Club. The Gala was dedicated to honoring Latino innovators in different fields, such as law or religious life. Not only were community leaders honored but the night was filled with live entertainment, dancing, and speeches from Unanue Scholarship recipients.
The honorees for the Gala included Ernie Diaz, Executive Vice President for TD Bank, Arlene Q. Perez, a partner for the DeCotiis, Fitzpatrick, Cole & Giblin law firm, and Bishop Manuel A. Cruz of the Archdiocese of Newark. Each of these individuals have given their time and resources to better the Latino/Hispanic communities. They have also excelled in their fields, proving to be valuable leaders in their occupations.
Many other community leaders were in attendance that night. These leaders include President Mary Meehan, Dean Peter Shoemaker, Dean Andrea Bartoli, and Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin of the Archdiocese of Newark just to name a few.
Live music was provided by the Los Hacheros band and DJ Ariel Gonzalez. A silent auction and raffle also took place with items ranging from Goya baskets to Marc Anthony tickets. The Gala was overseen by the Masters of Ceremony, David Novarro and Adriana Vargas, award-winning journalists. Speeches were made by the honorees and an Unanue scholarship recipient, Jimmy Bedoya.
Overwhelmingly, based on the generosity of those in attendance, thousands of dollars were donated to the Institute that will contribute to cultural events and scholarships for Seton Hall students.
The Institute would like to thank everyone who was in attendance and the sponsors for the Gala, Serralles, TD Bank, Goya, and others. They would also like to thank the Unanue family and Seton Hall University for continually supporting the mission of the Institute.
