Professor Lee E. Miller Featured in the Huffington Post

Lee Miller Professor Lee E. Miller, a former senior vice president at TV Guide and USA Networks who will be leading a series of upcoming workshops on "Strategic Influencing and Communication", was featured in the Huffington Post.

For the Huffington Post, Miller, an adjunct professor of management at Seton Hall's Stillman School of Business, authored "To Be a Better Negotiator Become a Better Listener."

In the article, Professor Miller writes:

Some people think that to be a good negotiator you need to be tough. Yelling, banging tables, and slamming doors however, are definitely not the best way to get what you want when negotiating. Try listening instead. In order to get someone to see things your way, determine what motivates them. Take time and make the effort to understand what we call the U Perspective- how someone sees a situation and what is important to them. People will always tell you what they care about if you are willing to listen. To persuade, first you have to listen.

In August of 2016, The Huffington Post listed the "16 Books Aspiring Women Leaders Need to Be Reading." Miller's most recent book, A Woman's Guide to Successful Negotiating, made the list. Miller's book was also selected by Atlanta Woman magazine as one of the 50 best books for professional women and by Good Morning America as a "featured book."

In his upcoming workshops on Strategic Influencing and Communication, Professor Miller will take participants through the process of becoming leaders who shape outcomes. Miller notes, "This workshop will be beneficial to individuals changing careers and those seeking to influence hiring managers to give them the opportunity to apply their skills in a different context."

Using role playing and small group exercises, these highly interactive workshops will allow participants to experience the process of influencing in different cultural and organizational contexts by analyzing different situations and designing appropriate strategies to achieve their goals and maximize outcomes. They will practice building consensus within and across teams, and learn how to exercise subtle influence, while limiting resistance. At the end of this course, participants will understand the roles of anchoring, legitimacy, desire, persuasion and consensus in successful influencing strategies.
